Laurent Potdevin joined the Canadian yoga-inspired athletic apparel brand as CEO in 2014, where he has been fueling the company’s global growth with a deep understanding of premium brands, best-in- class customer experience, athletic apparel, technical products and innovation. Under his leadership, the originator brand is laser-focused on design and innovation, securing lululemon as the global marketplace leader in the category it created and continues to define.
Laurent brings more than 25 years in the retail industry to his role and has demonstrated a unique ability to lead and elevate global, lifestyle-focused brands across a broad consumer base. His expertise navigating complex back-end business structures, and vast experience in supply chain management, sourcing and operations has helped strengthen business models to support sales and growth across organizations.
While at lululemon, Laurent has assembled a diverse and culturally aligned management team intent on fostering the brand’s unique decentralized business model and a culture built on a deeply held belief that “trust breeds magic.” His team’s key strategic investments in people, processes and technologies are delivering strong long-term profitability and supporting the brand’s global expansion. A key component of lululemon’s success is a relentless focus on functional innovation driven in large part by the company’s deep relationships with its ambassador community. Laurent’s passion for working with athletes has been a strong proponent to keeping the brand laser-focused on developing technical product designed by athletes for athletes.
Over the past two decades, Laurent has devoted himself to working at companies deeply focused on the customer experience and constant innovation. Prior to joining lululemon, he was President of TOMS Shoes, rapidly expanding the brand into ten new countries while maintaining the company’s strong culture and 1:1 philanthropic model. Before TOMS, Laurent spent 15 years at Burton Snowboards, five of those as President and CEO where he is credited with developing Burton into a global company synonymous with the sport. Laurent’s appreciation for premium, luxury brands was forged early in his career at LVMH as Director of North American Operations for Louis Vuitton, the company’s premier Louis Vuitton brand.
Laurent earned his undergraduate degree and Masters in Engineering from École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne in Geneva, Switzerland and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from ESSEC Business School. An avid snowboarder, Laurent can be found carving it up on the mountain or playing golf in lululemon’s hometown of Vancouver, B.C. and catching waves on his surfboard in Southern California.
